Program

Will Power to Schools (WPS) is a multi-facted theater education program that invigorates the teaching and learning of Shakespeare in the classroom. The full program package includes professional development, partnership with teaching artists, curriculum materials, transportation support and tickets to see a professional production of Romeo & Juliet in Spring 2011.

  • Professional Development - WPS begins with a dynamic in-service professional development program for classroom teachers. Participating classroom teachers can receive 1 LAUSD salary point credit for completing the two-day workshop. Teachers will train alongside experienced teaching artists, learn from noted Shakespearian scholars and get an inside look at production choices. They will explore the educational materials provided by The Shakespeare Center and collaborate with experts to customize their students' classroom experience.
  • Classroom Workshops - Designed to review the story of Romeo & Juliet and explore themes through improvisational activities, in-depth discussion and writing exercises.
  • Tickets to Spring 2011 Production - Students will have an opportunity to come to a matinee performance of Romeo & Juliet, featuring a company of professional actors.
The production and associated educational materials are aligned with the Visual and Performing Arts and English Language Arts Frameworks for California Public Schools grades 6-12.
