As part of our year-long exploration of Macbeth, one of William Shakespeare's greatest plays, The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles is planning a site-specific production at the historic Lummis House. This production of Macbeth will be directed by Benjamin Pohlmeier, who has condensed the text to a running time of 90 minutes. It will be performed by a professional cast of eleven actors, and use the facade of the Lummis House to evoke a medieval Scottish Castle.
Macbeth will be presented for two weeks in September to groups of students from middle schools and high schools in the adjoining areas. The performances of Macbeth will be offered free of charge to the students and schools involved. To make this possible, we are seeking funding support from nearby neighborhood councils, elected officials, civic groups and businesses.
The Shakespeare Center is proud to announce that we have been awarded funding from five Northeast Los Angeles Neighborhood Councils so far! Big thanks to the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council, the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council, the Greater Cypress Park Neighborhood Council, and the Historic Cultural Neighborhood Council!
